Private language schools vary considerably in the number of monthly classes and hence required teaching hours; however they generally range from around 100-120 teaching hours per month. Please note though that this is in-class teaching hours only, preparation time is always extra. The duration of each class can vary from around 40 - 80 minutes depending upon the age and skill level of the students. Hence 100 hours a month does not necessarily mean 100 classes; it could instead mean 150 forty-minute classes, or 120 fifty-minute classes etc to make up the 100 teaching hours a month. Teachers also need to be aware that during the public school summer and winter vacations (4-5 weeks); the students do not have to attend their regular school classes. As a result of this private language Institutes adjust their schedules to begin as well as finish earlier in the day, as most will offer vacation intensive classes for those students that wish to get ahead. Therefore during this period teachers can expect to begin at around and finish by 4 or , additionally many teachers may be required to put in overtime. Teachers should check the exact conditions of their contract regarding vacation and overtime as it varies from school to school.
